Chapter 3 Sources of Knowledge: Libraries

The difference between Library of Congress Classification System (L.C.) and Dewey Decimal Classification System (D.D.C.)

         The Library of Congress Classification System is subjected-based, classifying and arranging items by the subject matter involved.
  • The LC system is broken into 21 primary classes, or general subject areas. represented by letters.
  • By breaking items into 21 subject areas the LC System allows libraries to classify and arrange larger collections by the main subject matter of the text.




          The Dewey Decimal Classification is they system that used to organized book in the library under this system, every call number begins with three numbers followed by various letters and/or numbers combinations. The numbers correspond to subject areas.
